BANKING

“You could make a fortune. Hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Hey, more than that. Thousands of thousands.”

“They call them millions.”

“Millions. Hmm. Yeah, millions.”

Once Upon A Time In The West

The currency used in this game is issued by the Colonial Central Bank. Colonial Central Bank has no affiliation with the many private independent banks which exist on permission to use its currency at variable interest rates (depending how safe the private independent bank is). As a general rule of thumb; where there is a train station in town there will be a CCB, where there is no train station there is a private independent bank (if any).

Currency is in the form of Bank Notes based on the Gold Standard where 1 gram of Gold is worth approximately 100 CCB Notes or less if exchanged through a private independent bank. Private Independent Banks usually charge 5% extra to repay their CCB loans (this varies depending how safe the PIB is) plus another 5% for its own profit and growth. The largest PIB chain riding off the back of CCB is Settler Investments Anonymous. SIA offers an alternate to CCB Notes called SIA Notes which are currently worth 110% of a CCN Note. Most smaller private independent banks close down either through bankruptcy or robbery.

All the banks deal in Property Deeds as well as gold, iron, other precious resources and Bank Notes. Banks utilise private Lawyers for sorting out necessary legal contracts.

1 Gold = 25 Iron = 100 CCB Notes

NB: Currently 1 gram of gold is worth approximately uk£50/eu€60/us$65 per gram

while between 1600-1850 (ish) it was approximately£20/eu€23/us$17.5 per gram

“Easy, Frank, Easy. You got to learn not to push things.

Taking it easy is the first thing a business man should do.”

Harmonica, Once Upon A Time In The West

The Indians do use the Colonial Banking system however their indigenous culture does not value money as a representational trade item due to their mindset being that a thing is what is. Indians have a goods and services exchange system based on the principles of barter, necessity and sharing.

As a primarily hunter-gatherer and handcraft culture the Indians do not usually need or want to use the forego idea of money within their own communities. Where they do need to do something like that they typically use Beans, Coffee Beans or Cacao Beans instead of coins.

Indians have been known to melt down colonial coins to use the metal for making tools more practical to their lifestyles, something the Banks do not like because it costs them money and negatively affects the economy they are attempting to stabilise.

The CCB and other colonial banking enterprises exist as an independent entity to the Banking system used in the colonists original continent. Almost all of the colonists seek to break away from that civilisation, not only for their banking but entirely. They discover a level of freedom in the colonies which is unheard of in the extremely totalitarian culture of their original continent.
